PSCHE

Statement of Intent

At Minterne, we believe that out PSCHE curriculum is a vital part of our children's education. We know that PSCHE will improve the physical, psychosocial, and personal well-being of our pupils, aiding them to achieve their potential. Our curriculum helps all children develop necessary skills, knowledge and attributes needed for them to understand the world they live in. It allows them to prepare for the responsibilities and challenges that they may face in life now and in their future, so that they may lead healthy, independent lives and become informed, active and responsible citizens - learning for a lifetime!

PSCHE at Minterne

Our PSCHE curriculum has been designed to sequence learning covering  three core themes: Relationships, Living in the Wider World, and Health & Well-being.  Lessons are timetabled weekly, with learning recorded in a shared big book.  PSCHE is not limited to these timetabled sessions as teachers will adapt and support to meet the needs of pupils within their class.  PSCHE is threaded throughout all areas of the curriculum and daily life at Minterne.

RSE

RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) involves learning about relationships, healthy lifestyles, diversity and personal identity.  At Minterne, we want all pupils to feel they are valued and an important part of our community regardless of their differences.  Our curriculum has been developed  in consultation with parents and pupils.  It focuses on teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships including:

  • families and people who care for me.
  • caring friendships
  • respectful relationships
  • online relationships
  • being safe
  • changes as we grow

Through use of resources that are well researched and age-appropriate we can arm our pupils with knowledge to keep themselves happy, healthy and safe!
